Responsibilities and Job Description:

Server Setup and Configuration:

  • Install, configure, and maintain server operating systems such as Linux distributions (e.g., CentOS, Ubuntu) or Windows Server.
  • Set up and optimize web server software (e.g., Apache, Nginx, LiteSpeed) for hosting websites and web applications.

Control Panel Administration:

  • Configure and manage web hosting control panels like cPanel, Plesk, or DirectAdmin.
  • Create and manage hosting accounts, email accounts, databases, FTP accounts, and domain names within the control panel.
  • Monitor resource usage and manage server-level settings through the control panel interface.

Security Management:

  • Implement security measures to protect servers and hosted websites from cyber threats, including malware, hacking attempts, and DDoS attacks.
  • Install and configure firewall software (e.g., iptables) to control network traffic.
  • Regularly update server software and apply security patches to mitigate vulnerabilities.

Backup and Disaster Recovery:

  • Set up and manage backup solutions to ensure data integrity and facilitate disaster recovery in case of hardware failure or data loss.
  • Test backup systems regularly to verify data recoverability and implement backup rotation strategies.

Performance Monitoring and Optimization:

  • Monitor server performance metrics such as CPU usage, memory usage, disk space, and network traffic.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize server configurations for improved efficiency and reliability.
  • Implement caching mechanisms (e.g., opcode caching, CDN integration) to enhance website performance and reduce server load.

Technical Support:

  • Provide technical assistance to customers or internal users regarding web hosting services, server configurations, and troubleshooting.
  • Respond to support tickets, emails, or phone calls promptly and effectively to resolve issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Document support activities and maintain a knowledge base for future reference.

Software Installation and Updates:

  • Install and configure additional software packages or modules required for specific web hosting features or customer requirements.
  • Manage software updates and upgrades for server software, control panels, and third-party applications to ensure compatibility and security.

Compliance and Policy Enforcement:

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, PCI DSS) and company policies related to data privacy, security, and acceptable use of resources.
  • Enforce usage policies to prevent abuse, spamming, or unauthorized activities on the hosting infrastructure.

Skills and Experience Desired:

  • BS or MS in IT, CS, SE, Telecom, or related fields.
  • 4+ years of IT or related experience.
  • Interpersonal skills: such as telephony skills, communication skills, active listening, and customer care.
  • Diagnosis skills of technical issues.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changes quickly.
  • Service awareness of all organization’s key IT services for which support is being provided.
  • Understanding of support tools, techniques, and how technology is used to provide IT services.
  • Typing skills to ensure quick and accurate entry of service request details.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-moving environment.
